Brian and Anne Bailey
George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces has to be blamed for our garden shed obsession. Those beautiful little spaces that have been turned in to numerous offices, hideouts, wo/man caves and chill out areas have given inspiration to thousands.
One hidden space in Compton - called the Gothic Retreat - is made from two tons of reclaimed stone, timber and cedar shingles and features stained glass windows, shell mosaics on the walls and ceiling and also houses reclaimed church furniture.
It was built by Brian and Anne Bailey and was shortlisted by the Amazing Spaces programme join 2014. It is surrounded by trees, lawns, plants, a berry garden, Chinese gates and a Japanese tea house.
The garden is part of the National Open Garden Scheme which helps owners open up their gardens to the public.
