Imagine joining a writing course as a hobby, writing a novel that then gets picked up by Richard & Judy’s book club, which turns in to a best-selling debut novel (selling more than 4m copies produced in 40 languages), which is then turned in to a Hollywood movie starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth.
It’s almost the stuff of fantasy fiction but this is exactly what happened to Stourbridge-born author Steve Watson when he released his debut novel - Before I Go To Sleep.
Hitting the number one spot on The Times paperback chart, as well as winning several awards and accolades (The Crime Writers’ Association Award for Best Debut Novel and The Galaxy National Book Award for Crime Thriller of the Year), Steve, who writes under the name SJ Watson, released his second novel ‘Second Life’ in 2015.
His psychological thrillers have gained millions of fans, topped the literature charts around the world and have turned him from part-time audiology specialist with the NHS to full time author.
