Stan Griffin

Mastered: Horticulture
Location: West Bromwich

From travelling to South America to see Cacti in their natural habitat to hanging out at the Queen’s Garden Party – the life of a Royal Horticultural Society Gold medal winner, Stan Griffin, is a busy one.

Of course, the highlight of any horticulturalist must be the annual RHS Chelsea Flower Show and it is here that celebrities that flock to meet Stan? “We met celebrities who attended including Kim Wilde, Richard E Grant, Sue Holderness (Marlene from Only Fools and Horses), Jerry Hall, Naomi Harris, David and Rosemary Bellamy, Anne Swithinbank, Ian Lavender (Pike), Jim Carter (Downton) and the memorable Carrie Fisher (RIP).”

Over fifty years of growing cacti and other succulents have given Stan unrivalled experience and understanding of their needs. And with such a dedication to the pursuit, it is no wonder he has so many fellow green-fingered fans including Carol Kline, Diarmuid Gavin, Monty Don, David Bellamy and Bob Flowerdew.

Stan has also supported and provided plants to Turner prize winning artist Martin Creed for his exhibitions in Birmingham and Edinburgh.
